Info:
- Shikhar Dhawan agonisingly fell 2 runs short of his 18th ODI century in the first game, finishing with 98 from 106 balls. It’s the second time in five innings that he’s been dismissed very close to triple figures in this format, back in January 2020 he made 96 against Australia in Rajkot.
- India’s bowling was excellent in the first ODI. It featured Prasidh Krishna who took 4-54 on his debut and combined with fellow debutant Krunal Pandya’s 31-ball unbeaten 58, the new boys grasped their opportunity with both hands. It will be interesting to see if they can back up these performances in this game.
- For England, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran were economical with the ball in the last game but Jonny Bairstow was the only batsman to make a significant score. His 66-ball 96 was his highest score in international cricket in India and his second successive half-century score in India in this format.

Toss Prediction
Eoin Morgan won the toss in Tuesday’s game but asking India to bat first didn’t make much of a difference in the final result. We expect whichever captain who wins the toss to elect to field.
Weather & Pitch Report:
⛅ Weather:
Sunny throughout. The game will start with a temperature of 37 before peaking at 38 degrees.
🏟️ Pitch:
There was something in the pitch for the spin bowlers but it favoured the seam up bowlers who returned the best figures. Mark Wood’s express pace only saw the ball fly to the boundary at great speed, we expect a similar pitch for this game.
Team NEWS:
INDIA Team News:
We expect India to stick with the same XI who were victorious by 66 runs in Tuesday’s game. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement from Virat Kohli’s side who looked likely to post a sub-par total at one stage and had no answer to Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow’s powerful hitting in the first thirteen overs of England’s innings.
ENGLAND Team News:
England will return to the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium not only with the knowledge that they let a very winnable position slip but also, potentially with a weakened side. Morgan and Billings are injury doubts but we would expect the two days rest to be sufficient to select Mark Wood in back-to-back fixtures again.

IND Key Players:
Rohit Sharma:
Rohit Sharma is one of the best batsmen going around in world cricket. He was the best Indian batsmen in the Test series and played a whirlwind long knock of 64 in the final T20I. He is expected to start well.
Virat Kohli:
India’s captain is a key player with the bat and in the field across all formats of the game with ODIs no exception. In this format, he is second only to Sachin Tendulkar for a number of centuries, 49 v 43, and he showed his class again with 56 runs from 60 balls on Tuesday.

Bhuveneshwar Kumar:
In spite of the electric performances from the debutants, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was arguably the pick of the India players in the first ODI. Not only taking 2 wickets but keeping his economy rate down to only 3.33 meant that the England batsmen had to take risks off the other bowlers.

KL Rahul:
After a very disappointing T20I series, Rahul showed that class is permanent with an unbeaten 43-ball 63 across the final seventeen overs of India’s innings. He also proved his worth with the gloves, taking three catches to dismiss Morgan, Moeen and Rashid
ENG Key Players:
Jason Roy:
The opener came into this tour with question marks against his position in both the T20I and ODI side, but have scores of 49, 46, 40, and 46 proved his doubters wrong? England needs Roy to kick on and produce really significant innings to prove his worth to the team.
Jonny Bairstow:
Roy’s partner at the top of the order registered a half-century for the first time on this tour at the tenth time of asking, but he will be bitterly disappointed that he couldn’t produce a three-figure score or take England to within a touching distance of the target. He has four scores of 80+ in his last six ODI innings.

Adil Rashid:
with Jofra Archer out of the remaining games of the tour, the pressure with the ball increases for Adil Rashid. He went wicketless on Tuesday with his nine overs costing 66 runs. England will require a greater economy and penetration from Rashid in this game.

Team Forms:
IND Team Form:
After losing five successive ODIs in New Zealand and Australia across 2020, India have now won their last two games in this format. Beating Australia by 13 runs in Canberra ahead of the comprehensive victory over England in Pune on Tuesday.
ENG Team Form:
This supposed all-conquering England ODI side have now lost four of their last five fixtures with defeats to India, Australia and Ireland. If Morgan joins Archer and Root out of the side then it is hard to see how that form can pick up.
